GOLD COAST

A former British Colony and Protectorate situated in the Gulf of Guinea on the west coast of Africa. The country was given Independence in 1957 and renamed Ghana. Stamps first issued in 1875.

NORTHERN RHODESIA

The part of Rhodesia (now known as Zimbabwe) north of the Zambesi River. It became a British Crown Colony in April 1924 and issued its first stamps in 1925 until October 1964 when the territory attained independence and was renamed The Republic of Zambia.

SOMALILAND

A former British Protectorate situated on the east coast of Africa. Egyptian post offices opened in 1876 and the stamps of Egypt were in use until 1884. From 1887 Indian stamps were used until June 1903 when the Protectorate Post Office was opened and Indian stamps overprinted British Somilaland were issued. During WWII the country was occupied by Italian forces from 1940 to 1941 until the country was retaken by the British in 1942. Somaliland Protectorate stamps were withdrawn in June 1960 when the country was granted independence and became a republic.
