CEYLON

A former Crown Colony which became a Dominion of the British Commonwealth in 1948 and finally a republic in 1972 changing its name to Sri Lanka. An island of some 25,000 square miles lying to the south of India. Stamps first issued in 1857.

HONG KONG

A small island at the mouth of the Canton River in China. Hong Kong became a British Possession in 1841 and the first Post Office was established in October 1841. The first stamps were issued in 1862. Hong Kong became part of The People's Republic of China in July 1997.

NEWFOUNDLAND

Formerly Great Britain's oldest overseas posession, Newfoundland was discovered by Cabot in 1497 and was captured in 1583 by Sir Humphrey Gilbert. The first stamps were issued in 1857 and continued up until 1949 when Newfoundland became the tenth province of the Dominion of Canada.
