The once Dominion of Pakistan was formed when the Empire of India was divided into the Dominions of India and Pakistan in 1947. Its first stamps were issued in that year by overprinting current Indian KGVI stamps at Nasik as well as many provisional overprints which were used by various offices. Pakistan became a republic in 1956.
