Qatar lies on the south west shore of the Persian Gulf and is approximately 100 miles from north to south and 50 miles from east to west. Stamps first issued in 1957 under a British Postal Administration by overprinting stamps of Great Britain. The Qatar Post Department took over control in May 1963.
