A former British Dominion, the Union of South Africa came into being on May 31 1910 and was created from the Cape of Good Hope and Natal colonies as well as the republics of Orange Free State and Transvaal. Stamps first issued in 1910. Many stamps are inscribed alternatively in English and Afrikaans and were issued in bi-lingual pairs or triplets. Our prices for both mint and used stamps are for horizontal pairs or triplets where issued. In 1961 the country became a republic.
