During the Boer War in South Africa, Boer forces fighting the British occupied the town of Vryburg from October 1899. Initially unoverprinted stamps of the Transvaal were used but were later overprinted in "PENCE" and "Z.A.R.". On the 7th May 1900 the Boers evacuted the town and Transvaal stamps under the British Reoccupation were issued overprinted "V.R. SPECIAL POST".
