An island in the South Pacific which was annexed to New Zealand in 1901 having been declared a British Protectorate in 1888. One of the principal islands in the Cook Islands group, Penrhyn issued its own stamps in 1902 until 1932 when they were replaced by stamps of the Cook Islands. In 1973 it resumed issuing its own stamps after becoming part of the Cook Islands.
