One of the Indian Feudatory States, stamps were first issued in 1864 until 1950. Originally known as "Saurashtra" corrupted to "Soruth" the name should have been applied to a portion of the state of Junagadh. In 1947 the administration of the state of Junagadh was assumed by the Goverment of India. Under the new constitution, the United State of Saurashtra was formed in February 1948. Stamps issued prior to 1929 were issued without gum.
