Originally comprised all of East Africa under British administration. It became a protectorate in 1895 and in 1903 was amalgamated with Uganda to form East Africa and Uganda Protectorates, later known as Kenya and Uganda. Stamps were first issued in 1903. Co-operation between the postal services of the three member countries ceased after 30 June 1977.
