At the eastern end of the Mediterranean, Palestine was captured from the Turks in 1917 by the Egyptian Expeditionary Force of the British Army. Stamps first issued in 1918 under the British Military Occupation which changed in 1920 to a Civil Administration Under a British High Commissioner and then again in 1923 under a British Mandate to The League of Nations. The British Mandate was terminated in May 1948 when British Forces were withdrawn.
