A former British colony in the Leeward group in the West Indies, the postal service for St Christopher was organised from 1760 by the Deputy Postmaster General on Antigua. In 1779 the first postmaster was appointed to the island and stamps from Great Britain were in use from 1858 until 1860. The first stamps were issued in 1870 and continued up until 1890 when they were superseded by the general issues for the Leeward Islands.
