A former German colony which was seized by British South African forces in 1915. Prior to the issue of its first stamps in 1923, German and then South African stamps were in use. Many stamps are inscribed alternatively in English and Afrikaans and were issued in bi-lingual pairs or triplets by overprinting stamps of South Africa. Our prices for mint and used stamps are for horizontal pairs or triplets were issued. In March 1990 the country became independent and is now known as Namibia.
