In common with some of the other former Colonial powers, Britain maintained a number of Post Offices in the Turkish Empire and British stamps surcharged with the value in Turkish Currency and later some stamps overprinted Levant were issued. British Levant stamps were issued from 1885 until 1921 prior to which unoverprinted stamps from Great Britain were used.
