Discovered by Columbus in 1493, Dominica ia a rugged mountainous island in the West Indies. A British Crown Colony until 1967 when it was granted Associated Statehood later gaining Independence in 1978. Stamps first issued in 1874 prior to which the Stamps of Great Britain were in use.
