A rugged and picturesque island in the British West Indies. A former British Crown Colony which became Independent in 1974, Grenada was discovered by Columbus in 1498 and taken by the British from the French in 1762. Stamps first issued in 1861 prior to which the stamps of Great Britain were in use.
