A former British Colony in the Indian Ocean comprising of ninety islands. Seychelles was administered as a dependency of Mauritius from 1810 until 1903. The first post office was opened in 1861 and Mauritius stamps were used on the islands until 1890 when Seychelles issued its own stamps. The islands were granted indpendence from Great Britain in 1976.
